My 7-year-old son had been close to losing his place at the school he attended. This was due to the school's aggressive approach to children with ADHD. They kept insisting he needed to go on medication; and that he was too disruptive in class. We tried all sorts of ADHD medications and variable doses without success. When my father-in-law told me about a ball bouncing therapy, with a strange name called ‘Bal-A-Vis-X,’ I immediately went online to see what it was. The video on YouTube showed the therapy to be very complicated and thought my son would never be able to do those things. But despite my reservations, I sent through an email request and spoke to Usha Patel about the therapy. She advised me there was a Two-Day Workshop in Bal-A-Vis-X for parents, and I would be well suited to go and learn. I enrolled so I could improve the chances of my son staying at his school.
I attended the Two-Day Training in Central London. There was a small cosy group of around ten people. We learnt so much from Usha and her team.
I discovered my son was left-eye dominant, which contributed to his reading numbers from right to left and also he was methodically inclined. The Workshop was exhausting, intense and full of useful information jargon-free. It motivated me to take control.
Since that Two-Day Training in November 2017, I have been working every day with my son doing Bal-A-Vis-X. It is one of the only things he agrees to do. We have also attended many practice sessions in small groups in London. These practice sessions helped build my knowledge base further. My husband and I have felt it has changed our son from a very hyperactive child who continually pushed us to the edge to someone able to stop, listen and learn. We also had a DNA test done and used it to find the most compatible medication for my son. The medicine wears off by 4 pm, and that is when we do the Bal-A-Vis-X. We do it at weekends when there is no medication given. While it is a delicate balance, we have found a combined treatment that works and has kept our son in school.
We are very grateful to Usha and her team of Bal-A-Vis-X ninjas for teaching me how to work in the way my son learns best.
